Christmas Cookies for the Pups

I love baking cookies for my pups and for my friends' pups. I thought I'd share a recipe you might want to try.

Chicken ‘N Oats Cookies
2 Cups + 1/2 Cup rolled oats
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/2 Cup low sodium chicken broth (can use beef broth)
1 Tablespoon parsley
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups rolled oats with salt, broth, egg, and parsley. Once combined, add the 1/2 cup leftover oats.
  3. After laying out wax paper, pour out the batter and knead by hand for 3 minutes to firm up the dough. Let the dough stand for 3 more minutes.
  4. Roll the dough to about a 1/2 inch thickness and use cookie cutters to cut into the dough.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes, with the option of flipping the cookies over for 4 additional minutes for extra crispness.
  6. Store in airtight container.

Corgis and Christmas Lights

I don't know what it is, but Dally just loves Christmas lights. If we drive through neighborhoods filled with lots of lights, she's wide awake, looking out the window. (Which, if you know how Dally is in the car, that's the surprise. Normally she falls asleep the instant she curls up in her corner once we're out of the driveway.)

Because of this, we love taking the Stump Kids to the Kentucky Horse Park's Southern Lights. It's an annual tradition for Matt and I--we both love the Christmas spirit. And we cannot wait to add our child to the backseat next year so we take all three girls to see the lights.

Santa Photos 2013!

This year Matt and I decided we wanted to skip the usual photos with Santa at PetsMart--the quality was getting rather shoddy. We couldn't afford to do the awesome Bluegrass Barkery Santa photos that my friends do, but we found that our favorite humane society was offering photos with Santa. So we packed up the Stump Kids and the cats (yes, the cats, too) and headed to the Woodford Humane Society where we knew 100% of our money was going to the humane society where we adopted Sarabi, and the set up was quite nice!

So, from our house to yours, we wish you and yours a very, Merry Christmas! The girls hope the Christmas Corgi (or "Santa Paws" as LaMesa calls him/her) bring your pups everything they hoped for!

The Stump Kids View the Southern Lights

It's hard to imagine that Christmas is now less than a week away. It's been hard to get into the Christmas spirit because of the uncommonly warm weather, events such as Connecticut, and M's stress of waiting on a phone call on a job interview he had last week.

But Tuesday night we took the dogs to go so the Southern Lights at the Kentucky Horse Park, a cool drive-through Christmas light show that ends with different booths and activities in the International Museum of the Horse (if you're in the area, I totally recommend going). Yes, that's right...most families take their children to go see the lights, but we take our "fur-children". When M and I were first dating, we took Dally to see the lights at the Horse Park and all around Lexington. She was enamored with Christmas lights.

Southern Lights this year. (I couldn't
get a photo of LaMesa because she
wouldn't stay still in the back seat.)
I know dogs are color blind, but I think they can captivated by the movement of the twinkling lights. And Dally is definitely one of those that loves it. When she sees the lights, she stands up at the window in the back seat and stares at it until we roll the window down. She'll then hang her head out and just watch the lights. Last night I brought her up to the front seat and she laid on my lap and rested her chin at the window and just watched.

LaMesa seems to have learned to love the lights, too, because last night she would run across the back seat of the truck between the two windows, as if to try to get in as much of the lights as possible.

We finished off the evening with a late dinner and finishing up some shopping. I think the evening relieved some of the tension and stress we've been feeling, plus got us both into the holiday spirit.

How are you getting you and your fur-kids into the holiday spirit?
